Installing ball guides for boxes
The time passed when the drawers in the tables and in the cabinets slid along the wooden slats. To replace them came more quality and comfortable guides from metal, equipped with rollers and bearings. The greatest demand of consumers is the ball guides of full extension. Another name is telescopic guides of full extension.
Ball bearings are used in the manufacture of furniture for the work of drawers.
They have some undeniable advantages, which include:
- affordable cost;
- smooth running;
- high strength;
- wear resistance;
- simplicity of installation.
Ball bearings full extension are used both in the cabinets of the compartment, in the chests and in the cabinets of kitchen furniture, and in other extendable structures.
To properly install the full-extension ball bearings, you need to meet certain requirements. Especially it concerns those domestic craftsmen who make pieces of furniture with their own hands.
Requirements for furniture are as follows:
Drawers without facade should have a width of 27 mm. less than the width of the place where they will be inserted. On each side there should be a gap of 13.5 mm for the installation of the guides. They have the same thickness with roller 26mm, but for better performance, you need a tolerance of 27mm.
The length of the box must coincide with the length of the guide for an ideal extension, which can be from 25 to 80 cm. Although the box itself can be longer than the guide by 50-100mm. The intermediate dimensions are in 50 mm increments. Up to the back wall of the cabinet the whole structure does not reach 10-50 mm.
The height of the drawers depends on the wishes of the owners and is not regulated in any way. Usually it is from 100 to 300 mm, but the dimensions can vary considerably.
Mounting guides
In order to install the ball bearing guides, you need to pull the inner part of them, holding the antennae black. The separated parts of the guides are attached to the outer side of the box and to the inner surface of the cabinet.
First you need to determine the location of the fastening. On the outside of the side wall of the drawer a fastening line is marked. It can pass in the center, it can be located in its lower part. Half of the ball structure is attached to this line using self-tapping screws.
An analogous line is marked on the inner surface of the cabinet wall. Its location depends on the height of the box. The remaining halves of the devices are screwed into place. The box is brought into place to the stop with force, then its free stroke towards the extension and closing is checked.
On the half of the ball bearing design there are quite a few holes. Each of them has its own purpose. Oblong horizontal holes serve to move the guides horizontally when they are adjusted. Oblong vertical - to move the bar up and down. After the final adjustment, the screws or screws are screwed into the round holes to securely fasten the elements of the ball rails.
In practice, it is usually done as follows:
The lower roller guides are installed at a distance of 30 mm from the bottom of the cabinet, and the ball bearings can be screwed at any level along the height of the drawer frame.
The location of the remaining parts depends on the size of the facades of the boxes. During operation they should not touch each other. For this purpose, the distance between the guides installed on the wall of the cabinet is made 2-3 mm larger than the height of the facade of the sliding structure.
Details of the guides are screwed strictly along the intended line.
After temporarily securing the parts through the elongated holes, you need to try to insert the box into its place. If all the previous operations were performed correctly, you will hear a slight click when the latch acts. This is a sign that the guides can be fixed permanently through the round holes. If there is no click, then adjustment is necessary with a small displacement of the parts down-up and back-to-back. Before adjusting, slightly loosen the fixing screws.
In the photo - this is a modern model of ball guide rails for boxes, equipped with a smooth closing mechanism and door closer. The mechanism allows you to fully extend the box and access all of its contents. Smooth closing is carried out by oil or spring door closer. The mechanism is guaranteed to withstand 50 thousand closures and openings. The device is designed for 25 kg of weight. It works absolutely noiselessly. There are other models of similar products simple ball-bearing guides without coils.
Ball bearings for drawers can not be confused with roller counterparts. Roller products are usually painted in white, brown or black. The box moves on wheels made of plastic. We do not recommend installing them by our specialists. The swivel guides eventually make a creak, the wheels quickly collapse and break out of the guides.
If the bottom of the box is inserted in special grooves, it is better to fix it with the help of wedge corners that are attached with screws, otherwise the contents may fall out together with the bottom.
For heavily loaded boxes, you can use the bottom of the hpp and a double set of ball bearing guides.
The installation of the guides is best carried out before the furniture is assembled. Work in this case is much more convenient and time will be spent significantly less. After the assembly, it remains only to make the necessary adjustments, or hinge facades on the boxes.
Ideally, the height of the drawer should be 40-50 mm less than the height of the facade with handles on the screws. With facades without handles, this size is better to increase so that the box can not be seen behind the milling of the facade.
To assemble furniture for a kitchen or another room, to establish mechanisms for closing and opening drawers can be handy. To do this, you need to buy quality guides for drawers and properly mount them. But as practice shows, it is better to contact the professionals in the assembly and repair of furniture.
